7 Elegant Wedding Decor Ideas In Florida

We’re in Florida, and here, elegant doesn’t have to mean uptight or boring.

It’s hard not to have fun here, so almost any theme or idea you choose for your wedding is likely going to be made fun in one way or another.

But to give you some specific inspiration to go on, we’ve collected a short list of elegant wedding decor ideas to hopefully spark your imagination.

Side Note: These are not ranked in any particular order.

Elegant Wedding Decor Ideas

1. Citrus

Florida is The Orange State, after all

Why not lean into that?

It’s potentially one of the cheaper options you have since almost everything required can be purchased in bulk from a local grocery wholesaler or farmer’s market.

It’s also a great way to support your local citrus growers.

And if there’s any left over after the wedding, you can donate it to a charity that feeds people in need.

From oranges and grapefruits to lemons, limes, citrons, and pomelos, you can make a whole thing out of a citrus-theme.

That versatility combined with the local connection to the land is what makes it such an elegant wedding decor idea.

2. Caribbean

Miami has long been considered the economic and cultural capital of the Caribbean, and that sentiment extends to the rest of Florida.

Well, maybe not Tallahassee; but everything south of that.

There is such a wealth of art, music, architecture, and other things to draw inspiration from that you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting a vision board together.

But you might want to lean into one or the other of the main Caribbean aesthetics:

Spanish Caribbean

Here, we’re talking about Miami, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and every other Spanish-speaking area all the way down to the northern coasts of Colombia.

This is the Spanish-speaking part of the Caribbean and it has its own distinct aura.

If you’re choosing to go Latin, you may want to include certain characteristic foods, like fried plantains, and certain music, like Salsa and Merengue.

English/French Caribbean

The English and French Caribbean are noticeably distinct from the Spanish-speaking part of the Caribbean.

However, because of history, they have enough in common aesthetically to generally fit into the same group.

We’re referring here to Jamaica, Trinidad, Belize, Guyana, Haiti, Martinique, and (depending on how you define “Caribbean”) maybe even New Orleans.

You’ll notice a relatively consistent pattern of architecture, color styles, music, and even food throughout.

3. Whimsy and Wonder

Disneyworld is in Orlando.

We are, too.

So, it seems obvious to mention this one.

If you’re like most of us, you probably grew up on Disney movies and similar other fantasy-related media.

Or maybe you grew up on things like Jurassic Park.

Well, Universal Studios is here in Orlando, too.

Either way, you’re in the perfect place to take inspiration from the very same movies, shows, songs, and pop culture sources that inspired you as a kid.

And what better place to look for elegant wedding decor ideas than the very same fantastical classic films that invented the concept of a “fairytale wedding” in the first place.

4. Flamingos!

OK, we don’t mean just flamingos (although you could probably do something pretty fun with that).

We are referencing the general look and vibe that Florida had around the 1950s.

Think hot pink, neon palm trees, Panama hats worn with loose Hawaiian shirts, classic cars, and jukeboxes.

This one can be pretty interesting because there’s a lot of room for creativity and personal touch.

If Jimmy Buffet ever made a music video for Margaritaville, we like to think that Florida’s most whacky and iconic bird would have been in it.

5. Tiki

Hawaii and Polynesia have claim to the origins of the Tiki aesthetic, but Florida has embraced it and it works just as well here

You can throw in everything from Easter Island heads and tiki totems to grass skirts and flower leis.

And don’t forget the fruity cocktails.

If you’re a more exciting couple, you might even include a fire dance performance as part of the entertainment.

Perhaps most importantly, though, you’ll want to include some Polynesian and Hawaiian themed music to help set the background vibe.

If you like, you can even save this for your reception afterward and rent out a bar or restaurant so you can have it decorated appropriately.

6. Mayan

Most people don’t think about this, but the Yucatan Peninsula is also on the Caribbean Sea, and it has almost exactly the same climate and geography as Florida.

If you hop on a plane in Orlando, you can be in Cancun in 2 hours.

2 hours! It’s right there.

That means anything that looks cool there will probably look cool here as well.

From the iconic Mayan calendar to the modern fabrics, painted ceramics, and wood carvings that part of Mexico is known for, there’s a lot to get inspiration from.

7. Tuscan

The last entry on this list of elegant wedding decor ideas is another one that’s usually less expected.

This is our favorite here at Sterling Event Venue.

Florida has long been a major destination for people moving from Italy or heavily Italian-influenced cities like NYC and New Orleans.

And for that reason, you’ll find no shortage of Italian influence in local architecture and even certain local social customs.

Our very own venue was built to model a Tuscan villa

You should come check it out sometime.

And the most elegant wedding decor ideas of all are the ones that include this beautiful state and its famous landscapes in the background.

You’d really have to try to go wrong here.

So, we’re confident that, whatever kind of theme or decorations you choose to have, you’ll have a great wedding.

And more importantly, we wish you the best in your new married life together!
